Full name: Taqiyud-Deen Ahmad ibn 'Ali ibn 'Abdul Qaadir ibn Muhammad ibn Ibraheem Al-Maqreezee
His father was a judge in Egypt and he grew up in a pious, knowledgeable environment. He memorized the Quran before being sent to study with the scholars of his time by his grandfather. He studied until he became one of the greatest scholars of his time. He was well versed in the Arabic language, Adab, History, contemporary affairs.
He became the assistant of the supreme judge of the Shafi'ee Madhab and the Imaam of Jaami' al-Haakim. He was also a lecturer of Hadeeth in the al-Mu-ayadah school.
He left Cairo and travelled to Makkah for Hajj, he remained there for five years; teaching and authoring books before returning to Cairo.
He died at the age of eighty 845 H | 1441 C.E.
Ibn Hajar al-'Asqalaanee stated: "He was an Imaam, a scholar, well versed, precise, one who loved Ahlus Sunnah, inclined to Hadeeth."
As-Sakhawi stated: "He authored beautiful poems, splendid books...he was a good companion and delightful lecturer."
