It was reported that his mother was fasting ‘Aashooraa when he was born.
His father was the Shaykh, the judge; Ibraheem ibn ‘Abdul Lateef. His mother is Jawhara bint ‘Abdul ‘Azeez al Hilaalee.
The former Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia before ibn Baaz, may Allaah have mercy upon them both. He was the Mufti of the country before the official opening of the Administration of Iftaa. It was established in the year 1374 H under his supervision.
He was appointed as a judge before that.
He was the Imaam of Masjid Shaykh ‘Abdur Rahmaan ibn Hasan until he died, which is now called Masjid Muhammad ibn Ibraheem.
He had classes in his Masjid after Fajr and ‘Asr, he also had classes in his home during Duhaa.
He was appointed president of the Institution of Colleges when it was established.
He was officially appointed as head of Judiciary when the Institution of courts was established in 1376 H.
He was the supervisor of the Academic Institution for Girls when it opened in 1380 H.
He established the the Islaamic university of Madeenah in 1380 H and appointed Shaykh ‘Abdul ‘Azeez ibn Baaz as supervisor.
He memorized the Qur-aan at a young age before he lost his sight.

عين قاضياً في (الغطغط) واستمر في هذا العمل ستة أشهر ، وتزوج الشيخ من أهلها أثناء إقامته هناك
كان إماماً لمسجد الشيخ عبد الرحمن ابن حسن –المسمى الآن مسجد الشيخ محمد بن إبراهيم
وكذلك كان هو المفتي للبلاد ، وكان قبل فتح (إدارة الإفتاء) رسمياً هو الذي يفتي ، ثم افتتحت (إدارة الإفتاء ) رسمياً في شهر شعبان من عام 1374هـ تحت إشرافه
ولما افتتحت رئاسة المعاهد والكليات أيضاً كان هو الرئيس ، وكان قد أناب عنه أخاه الشيخ عبد اللطيف
ولما تأسست رئاسة القضاء عام 1376هـ عمد رسمياً برئاسة القضاء
ولما افتتحت رئاسة البنات عام 1380هـ كان هو المشرف العام عليها
