Amongst the religious harms [of smoking]:
It makes worship and carrying out the obligations difficult upon the servant, especially fasting, and whatever makes a person dislike practicing goodness is indeed evil.
It also draws a person to mixing with immoral people, and draws them away from accompanying the righteous as is evident. This is amongst the greatest deficiencies, that a servant of Allah is close to immoral people and distant from the righteous, this leads to enmity and hatred towards the people of goodness, to criticizing them and staying away from their path.
Whenever the youth are afflicted with it, they become completely ruined and follow vile paths which lead to the total ruin of their mannerisms. Smoking has a lot of evil in it, not to mention the health hazards.

ومن مضاره الدينية : أنه يثقل على العبد العبادات والقيام بالمأمورات خصوصا الصيام ، و ما كره العبد للخير فإنه شر ، وكذلك يدعو إلى مخالطة الأرذال ، ويزهد في مجالس الأخيار كما هو مشاهد ، وهذا من أعظم النقائص أن يكون العبد مؤالفا للأشرار متباعدا عن الأخيار ، ويترتب على ذلك العداوة لأهل الخير والبغض لهم ، والقدح فيهم والزهد في طريقهم ، ومتى ابتلي به الصغار والشباب سقطوا بالمرة و دخلوا في مداخل قبيحة ، وكان ذلك عنوانا على سقوط أخلاقهم فهو باب لشرور كثيرة فضلا عن ضرره الذاتي
