The Seven Fuqahaa

Amongst the Major scholars of the Tabi’een are ‘The Seven Fuqahaa – al Fuqahaa as Sab’ah’ from the people of Madeenah, they are:

• Sa’eed ibn al Musayib.
• Al Qaasim ibn Muhammad.
• ‘Urwah ibnuz Zubayr.
• Kharijah ibn Zayd.
• Abu Salamah ibn ‘Abdur Rahmaan.
• ‘Ubayd Allah Bay’ Abdullah ibn ‘Utbah.
• Sulaymaan ibn Yasaar.

It was narrated on the authority of al Hafidh Abu ‘Abdullah that he said: ‘These are the seven Fuqahaa from the scholars of Hijaaz according to the majority.

It was narrated on the authority of ibn Mubaarak that he said:

‘The Fuqahaa of Madeenah, those who used to give their opinions were seven…’ and he mentioned the previous seven except that he mentioned Saalim ibn ‘Abdullah ibn ‘umar instead of Abu Salamah ibn ‘Abdur Rahmaan.

It was also narrated on the authority of Abuz Zannaad that he named these seven, except that he mentioned Abu Bakr ibn ‘Abdur Rahmaan instead of Abu Salamah and Saalim.
