Khaalid ibn Khaddaash narrated to us…on the authority of Ayoub [as Sikhtiyaanee] that he used to say upon congratulating a man for his new born:
May Allaah make him Mubaarak [a blessing] upon you and upon the Ummah of Muhammad - صلى الله عليه وسلم .
[Ibn Abee ad Dunyaa in ‘An Nafaqah ‘ala al ‘Iyaal’: #199, At Tabaraanee in ‘Ad Du’aa’: #871 and Abu Nu’aym in ‘Hilyat al Awliyaa’: #3015 each with their own chains on the authority of Khaalid ibn Khaddaash…]
Yahyaa ibn ‘Uthmaan narrated to us…that As Saree ibn Yahyaa said that a man who was sitting with al Hasan al Basaree was blessed with a child, so a man congratulated him saying: ‘Congratulations on the horse rider.’ So al Hasan said: ‘And how do you know he would be a horse rider? He may be a carpenter, he may be a tailor.’ The man said; ‘What should I say then?’ Al Hasan responded; ‘Say;
May Allaah make him Mubaarak [a blessing] upon you and upon the Ummah of Muhammad - صلى الله عليه وسلم.’”
[At Tabaraanee in ‘Ad Du’aa’: #870]
As for the Hadeeth:
‘Alee narrated to us…that al Haytham ibn Jamaaz narrated to us that a man said in the presence of al Hasan; ‘Congratulations on the horse rider.’ Al Hasan said; ‘And how do you know he will be a horse rider? He may be a cattle herdsman, or a donkey herdsman. Say; ‘Say: May you be grateful to the One who has given, may you be blessed in what you have been given, may he reach maturity and right guidance, and may you be treated well by him.’
