The Musabbihaat of the Quran

At Tirmidhee collected with his own chain of narration on the authority of ‘Irbaad ibn Saariyah that he narrated to him:

"Indeed the Prophet -صلى الله عليه و سلم - used to read 'al Musabbihaat before laying down and would say:

'Indeed there is a verse in them that is better than a thousand verses.'

Abu ‘Eesa stated: This Hadeeth is Hasan Ghareeb.

It was declared as Hasan by al Albaanee[1].

Al Mubarakfooree stated:

In his statement: "He used to read al-Musibbihaat…"

…They are the chapters of the Quran that begin with; Subhaan or Sabbaha – in the past tense – or Yusabbihu or Sabbih – in the form of an order; they are:

  1. Al Israa – [Subhaan alladhee Asraa…]
  2. Al Hadeed
  3. Al Hashr
  4. As Saff
  5. Al Jum’ah
  6. At Taghabun
  7. Al ‘Alaa

[1] Al-Albaanee - may Allah have mercy upon him - declared this Hadeeth as Hasan in Sunan at-Tirmidhi #3406, he also declares the chain to be inauthentic in Hadeeth #2921 in Sunan at-Tirmidhi and Hadeeth #5057 in Sunan Abu Dawood. It is possible that the chain is inauthentic but the meaning is correct. It is also possible that parts of the Hadeeth are authentic and other parts not, the article will be updated when the Hadeeth is researched furhter insha-Allah.

ما هي المسبحات من القران

أخرج الترمذي في سننه بإسناده عَنْ عِرْبَاضِ بْنِ سَارِيَةَ أَنَّهُ حَدَّثَهُ

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَقْرَأُ الْمُسَبِّحَاتِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَرْقُدَ وَيَقُولُ إِنَّ فِيهِنَّ آيَةً خَيْرٌ مِنْ أَلْفِ آيَةٍ

قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ غَرِيبٌ

صححه الألباني 1

قال المباركفوري في التحفة

قَوْلُهُ : كَانَ يَقْرَأُ الْمُسَبِّحَاتِ

بِكَسْرِ الْبَاءِ نِسْبَةٌ مَجَازِيَّةٌ وَهِيَ السُّوَرُ الَّتِي فِي أَوَائِلِهَا سُبْحَانَ أَوْ سَبَّحَ بِالْمَاضِي أَوْ يُسَبِّحُ أَوْ سَبِّحْ بِالْأَمْرِ وَهِيَ سَبْعَةٌ

سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي أَسْرَى

وَالْحَدِيدُ

وَالْحَشْرُ

وَالصَّفُّ

وَالْجُمُعَةُ

وَالتَّغَابُنُ

وَالْأَعْلَى
